Scope: Removal of a damaged lawn area and construction of a new compacted stone parking area alongside the existing asphalt driveway, giving the household additional off-street parking.
A local family in the Governors neighborhood of Billerica had simply outgrown their driveway. They needed additional parking at the home, and the area they wanted to use was a stretch of lawn already worn down and damaged by vehicles.
Rather than fight to bring that grass back every season, we turned the problem into the solution and built a proper stone parking area designed to carry the load.
The goal was practical. More room to park, without the property looking like a construction lot. The finished area had to sit naturally alongside the existing asphalt driveway and the surrounding lawn.
It also had to hold up under regular use rather than rut and sink after one New England winter, which comes down to excavation depth and compaction rather than anything you can see from the street.
Processed stone installed over an excavated and prepared base, then compacted. The depth of material and the compaction are what separate a parking area that lasts from one that ruts in the first wet spring.
The family gained the additional parking they needed without losing the look of the property. The stone area reads as part of the original driveway rather than an addition, and it is built to carry regular vehicle use season after season. Completed in two days, start to finish.
